This is a cool, eclectic place that has a great vibe. The pizza was really good. Several options for the thin crust and the toppings were fresh. I highly recommend this place.

I wrote a review on Yelp that said, "Sorry, not a fan" Yelp sends me an email saying my review does not meet their content guidelines. SCREW YOU YELP. So, after all the hype, I went here with some dear friends for lunch. It was, Expensive, the food (a salad and soup and sandwich) 3 entree's was cold, tastless and not at all good. The service was OK (not great) but he food was not impressive. There are better choices in Johnson City. (Oh originally I gave the place 2 stars now its down to one)

Decent beer selection, good pizza, and the outdoor seating! Funky cool, weird layout inside reminds me of Austin, TX.

This is my favorite place to eat when visiting Johnson City. The tamales, the jerk chicken and the Memphis pizza are some of my personal favorites and are always fantastic. Do yourself a favor, and go check put this place if you haven't done so yet.

Tony and I went to Johnson City today, Saturday Sept 7th, and we stopped at "Cootie Brown's" for lunch!!! The parking lot was so full and the outside dining area was overflowing with laughing, happy and eating customers. We were greeted immediately and we were seated inside. It was so vivid and lively in there with the tables well painted, the chairs all bright yellow and so many great colors...Our waiter was so friendly...His name was Dillon and we greeted us and even made a recommendation for the Jamacian Jerk chicken sandwich...we opted to try the pizza though... We went with the pick 2-5 toppings half pizza..with pepperoni, smoked mozzarella cheese, basil and garlic seasoning with mushrooms, onions and jalapeno peppers..the cook the pizza on the OPEN FLAME Wood burning Grill..OMG..the crust was thin and amazing..the Red tomato sauce was AWESOME!!! ..they cut it into square pieces...I highly recommend this restaurant.. The prices are AWESOME!!!! half pizza, large coke, small order of their homemade Cootie Chips and Tony had 2 budweisers...All for less than $18 dollars and then I left him an AWESOME tip... I can't wait to eat there again!!! When I relocate to Johnson City, this will be our favorite hangout place!! Can't wait to try the tamales, the Jamacian Stuffed pies, and Chicken sandwiches. I loved this place!! If you are in the area...Go Go Go to this place!!!!

We've been in town four days and have eaten there twice already, and will probably eat here before we leave. This is a funky looking place with great food at low prices. This place is so funky, you have to walk through the kitchen to get to the restrooms. It features pizza, sandwiches, salad, and more. There are inside and outside dining areas. One nice offering is gluten free pizza. And it serves beer too, with microbrews available. I had the Cootie Club and it was fantastic. Tuesday is Tamale Tuesday and they were wonderful. Get the Maytag Chips appetizer - spiral potato chips made on site covered with melted bleu cheese. The place is frequented by locals so you know this is a good place to eat. The staff are very friendly.

One of the absolute best restaurants in the area, hands down. It's a little pricey, but the quality of the food is fantastic. The only negative is that the service occasionally lets the food down.

Great food, awesome beer list, fantastic service and fun environment. Will definitely be going back!

One of the funniest names for a restaurant I've ever heard. Jamaican Jerk Chicken Sandwich is pretty darn good. The pizza's are too. It's kind of like a Mellow Mushroom however it's not corporate. Give it a shot. I enjoyed it! Atmosphere is funky. There are tie-dye shirts everywhere. Hippie central and I love it!

  • Jen R.

I love this place! I have taken most of my out of town visitors to eat here and it's always there favorite place. The pizza is delicious, it's thin crust-craft style. The sandwiches are huge and awesome. The tamales are yum, I think I got a burrito once that was as big as my face and amazing. The desserts are out of this world too, my favorite is the strawberry buttermilk-ish pie. It's kid friendly. They have tons of beers to choose from. The staff is always really friendly and responsive. Cool decor. Add this to your have to try list!

We went here while in town for the races at Bristol. Service was great. Food was okay. I had the eggplant parmesan and it was overcooked. In fact all the food was overcooked. It was very busy so maybe we just went on an off night. I don't know if I will go back if I am ever in town. We will probably look else where as a first option. The only thing keeping me from giving it one star....the Tamales!!! They are definately made by someone's grandmother in her kitchen with lots of love and care. They were AMAZING!

We eat here every time we're in town visiting family. Love the decor and atmosphere. The menu is extremely varied, which usually means nothing is particularly good; however, at Cootie Brown's that rule does not apply.

We drove past this place and noticed the patio was packed and the funky sign grabbed our attention. It is an upscale type of diner but the menu is more diverse and there is a good beer menu. My mom had a burger with goat cheese, roasted peppers, and a pesto sauce which was a good mix. My dad enjoyed the smothered chicken which was a hefty portion. I absolutely loved my half jamaican pizza which had a good amount of heat with the jerk chicken, jalapenos, and artichoke. The maple glazed sweet potatoes were too tempting not to try and were an amazing side. We were too stuffed to eat dessert, but took key lime pie home for breakfast - YUM. It isn't your traditional key lime pie but it was good. The orange cake, a la dreamsicle, also sounded delicious. I will definitely return here next time I am in Johnson City.

This place has a terrific menu selection. I love the build your own pizza selection. The half pizza is really enough to feed two if you are light eaters as well! I had the bratwurst platter which was delicious! I loved this sandwich! It is so hard to find a good brat these days. The hippy atmosphere is very laidback and is unique for the east Tennessee area. Oh and I almost forgot about the fantastic bakery that has great food and a fun selection too!

The Caribbean wings were delicious. The Jamaican pizza was interesting, probably will try a different one on our next visit. Key lime pie was bizarre looking but tasty. Decent beer selection.

Unique and casual. Food is good to great. Desserts are the best.

  • Lucy B.

Fun atmosphere, decent beer selection (when available) and good food. The staff is very young so there is a less attention to the customer and more to each other but I'd return again.

From the appearance outside, the location, and the tagline "Real Food," I was expecting local country food. Instead I found a college-aged waitstaff in tie-dyed t-shirts and a menu on newsprint with an assortment of sandwiches, burgers, pizzas, etc. The sandwiches my wife and I had -- an Italian hero and a muffaletta -- were quite good. The service was quick and friendly.

We just moved to the area and was looking for a place to eat with a 10 and 12 year old, we weren't sure if it was kid friendly and sat in the car to see what kind of peeps were walking in. We saw some youngsters go in so we went in. We were pleasantly surprise! Good service and a quirky place to go for a quick lunch. We will go back to try the pizza one day. Hamburgers were good. A comfortable place to go.

There were many a day when we would take our little passage of scenic altitudular mountain highway up and over the border from NC into TN just to go to Cootie's. We never really had a bad experience there and rather enjoyed it. It is quirkily decorated, especially the patio with its collagey tables and bright colors. We must have gone there at least a dozen times and tried a lot of the menu, when we were fleshitarians, and particularly liked the tamales, often bringing some home to freeze. And make sure to ask for ALL their hot sauces as they have many to try. For dessert, their Key Lime cookies are yummmmm. It is cheap and cheerful and with a name like Cootie Brown's, how can you have a bad time?

Love this Place it is a must when in the Tri City area. The sign out front says REAL FOOD and that is no lie. Food is good and made on sight. the place to eat in Johnson City.

Cootie Brown's is definitely the most eccentric restaurant in Johnson City. It's difficult not to see it if you're driving along on North Roan Street, with the big yellow sign, the brightly colored building, and zany decorations. Service tends to be good to excellent. Most of the menu items I've tried have been good, but I'd stop short of calling it "great." If anything, the menu might be a little too expansive, so that it's difficult to pinpoint a few "excellent" dishes. This would be a Gordon Ramsay nightmare (a restaurant trying to be everything to all people), but Cootie's pulls it off OK. The funky atmosphere is definitely the biggest plus. If there's one restaurant in JC that you have to say you've been to, it's Cootie Brown's. Overall, I think 4 stars is an adequate rating given the positives and negatives: funky atmosphere, reasonably good food, and good to excellent service.

Well me and my wife were treated to this place by our friends who live in the area. We were the out of towners looking to score a good meal and they said we have to eat here. One key point for this place is the key lime pie. Our friends said you have to try that junk, so I did......but I will leave that for the end. We started off with the blue cheese covered chips, what? Yes I said it, and it was fattening, uh I mean delicious. Good stuff and then my meal, a pizza which was good. My wife on the other hand, ordered the homemade tamales. Those tamales compared to my meal, made my lunch look like I was eating Krystals. So yes I recommend the tamales. Then came the main course... Dessert! I got the key lime pie and my wife ordered the pie that closely resembled a buttermilk pie. Awesome both of them, but I am partial to key lime. Very very very good. So all and all I gained 50 pounds and received 2 cavities, and enjoyed every bite. Will be back when we visit our buddies again.

I don't know...I used to work a lot up in this area and fell in love with this place...Always good service and interesting food...big menu...the beer is cold and a great variety...I hope to be able to stop by on this trip...the "decor" is outstanding... Maybe tomorrow night... I know they serve beers,,,not sure about wine...drink beer!

Love Cootie Brown's! Started eating there years ago when I was vegetarian. Lots of great, fresh options for both herbivores and carnivores. My favorites are the grilled veg sandwich and black bean burger. Awesome salads with housemade dressings. yum. Eclectic, super-casual atmosphere. Service can be hit or miss, but never horrible. Wide variety, so good place to take people that you may not know too well.

Decent food ~ Fun atmosphere ~ Something for everyone My family - my husband and two teenage girls and me - visited Cootie Browns on a roadtrip up I-81 when we overnighted in Johnson City. We were looking for decent food at a local joint, somewhere not a franchise. We found Cooter's on Yelp. Cooter's is an old place. Not sure how long the building has been around, but it looks like it's been modified a number of times to accommodate an ever increasing crowd. That's got to say something about the place! The decor is bright and cheerful - like a pinata on acid. The chairs at the tables where booths would normally be along the wall are connected to each other so that the thing sits kind of like a booth. Cute idea, but confusing to the first-timer who couldn't get our chairs to move. Haha. We walked in and were seated right away, but we got the feeling the place would be packed and hopping any night that ETSU is in session. They do offer seating inside and outside on the porch throughout the year (they have encapsulated the porch in plastic and have heaters, so it's pretty temperate out there). The staff seems to be 100% college-aged kids, which means they provide decent service because they need the tips, but they probably have no idea what really good service is actually like. The menu is chocked full of favorites, like burgers, house-made pizzas, sandwiches, salads, and a variety of dinner items. They have a wide variety of beers to choose from but offer no wine or mixed drinks. Bummer. My husband and I each got a salad (wedge and house), and they were pretty run-of-the-mill. We shared a pizza with whole wheat crust made to order, and the pizza was pretty so-so. Actually kind of gross, but that may have been our doing in the topping selection, not knowing that their Italian sausage looks and tastes more like Gyro meat. The teens got a chicken breast dinner and the shrimp po-boy, and while the shrimp on the po-boy were butterflied and over-fried, the remoulade had good flavor, and the chicken breast was well seasoned and nicely grilled. Our drinks were refilled often, and our server was courteous. If you're looking for average food in a fun atmosphere in Johnson City, Cootie Brown's is a good bet.

Yum Yum Yum! Don't let the name scare you off! I've been here twice nice and have not been disappointed by their food. On my most recent visit I had their Jamaican chicken which was off-the-hook! And you can't come here without getting some pie.... key lime pie is insane! Staff was friendly & service was efficient (not too fast and not too slow). Fun and yummy local hot spot. I'm sure I will be back here again on my next visit!

Atmosphere: You can definitely see a jamaican inspired decor. Bright colors, unique art, reminds me of a restaurant in Key West. Service: Cashier kind of looked like she didn't really care about being there. No smile or greeting. I went there early for dinner and there were barely any people. Food: Jamaican Beef pocket was good, not so sure about the sweet sauce that comes with it. It was too sweet for me and overpowered the flavor of the food. The tamales were definitely good, all three (Beef, Chichen, and Black bean). The Muffaletta was good, but i've had better. Their olive mix just wasn't as good as the others I've had. Cost: Good prices for the quality of food. Overall: Definitely would go back

This place is fantastic! There is something on the menu for everyone. Don't be turned off by the rough exterior (as my brother-in-law said the first time he was convinced to eat there: "It looks like there would be rats crawling around on the floor in there"). It's clean, I promise! This place definitely has a 70's, vintage-y, hippie twist. The staff wears tie-dye shirts (which they also sell) and the place is full of bright colors and uniquely decorated. I've never had any issues with the service here at all; the hosts and waiters are all very nice. Food menu- great. They have some good pizzas, and you can order a half pizza if only one person is going to eat it. They have a lot of unique little sandwiches in which they make with interesting breads and sauces that aren't a "standard" elsewhere. Save room for dessert! Their key-lime pie is so good, it will make you wanna slap your mama. When I go here with a group of my friends, we order they key lime pie, the raspberry pie, and the strawberry pie and eat off of all of them. Man, they're delicious. The beer menu also deserves mentioning. They carry some imports that a lot of other places don't carry as a standard (Pacifico for example- my favorite Mexican import). They also carry an assortment of local beers from the region and are very knowledgeable about what they suggest.

I really wanted to like this place. It has a really cool look and vibe. And it was really busy. However, it just didn't live up to my expectations. The service was quite good which is the only reason I gave it 2 marks, and not just one. I had a steak. I ordered it medium rare, and it came out well done. I sent it back and it came back about medium well. The cook needs to actually learn how to cook something correctly. It was a pretty tasteless, and VERY tough piece of meat. The mashed potatos were pretty tasteless. Even with the butter and sour cream. It was just bad. The green beans came from a can they tasted like. Just wasn't a good meal. I won't be back.

Always difficult to find good eats while you are traveling for work. Cooties was recommended by a colleague. We went to lunch and were greeted by eclectic decor and an enthusiastic staff. We started with the black bean dip. The serving was huge and the dip was flavorful and chunky. Wr shared a half pizza with BBQ sauce and pulled pork. Yum! Nice thin crispy crust and tons of flavor. The menu was huge and innovative. Fresh ingredients and tons of choices. My new favorite restaurant!

I absolutely love this place. The food is always prepared perfectly. The best place to dine is outside and people watch while eating. The key lime pie is the best I've ever had. If you don't get anything else while you're there, you have to get the key lime pie.

The peach pie is unforgettable. Sort of a cross between peach pie and cheesecake.

I was in Johnson City visiting friends and we stopped by Cootie Browns for dinner one night. Really cool, colorful decor (without being too overdone) and ample seating. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful while we were building our own pizzas. They have an impressive beer selection and served each bottle with a frosty cold glass, a definite plus. The pizza was inexpensive but HUGE and the ingredients I added (spinach, fresh mozzarella, pine nuts, zucchini) were all super fresh. So tasty! I don't know when I'll be back in Johnson City, but if I do go back I'll definitely stop by for another meal. Wonderful!

Had lunch here while visiting friends in town. Very cool spot with a fun interior and great selection of food, all of which was fresh and tasty for the most part. The wings were big but a bit tough and too expensive at $7 for four wings. The Jamaican Jerk variety was nowhere near as spicy as Jerk should be. The burgers and sandwiches were quiet good and the pizza was very good. They had no beer on draft which was a bummer. Overall, a good spot for lunch, an easy choice over the myriad of chain joints in town.

  • CJ F.

Wifey & I love Cootie Browns. It's kitschy decor is kid of busy. Go-to place for out of town guests that want something other than Anytown USA chain restaurants. Key Lime Pie, Strawberry Pie, and anything with Jerked Chicken are my faves. The Key Lime Pie is legendary in East Tennessee. Very varied menu, something for everyone. Best Ranch Dressing (like double-spiced and super onion-y) anywhere. The homemade potato chips with Ranch are a must-have appetizer. Honestly, I am not a fan of the pizza at Cootie's but several of my friends love it.

My boyfriend and I visited this place for dinner. It was his first time and he was very impressed with the ambience, the extensive menu which choices for everyone. The burger was delicious and the dessert was great too. For those living in this area or visiting from outside, I would strongly recommend this place.

Great homemade chips. Grilled shrimp was way overcooked. Jerk chicken was tasty. Roasted sweet potatoes were good. Love the eclectic atmosphere. I'd try it again.

This is my favorite place to eat at when I go home to visit. I hate chain restaurants so this place fits that bill. I also like the quirkieness of it. I always get the Jamican beef patties. Last time I was there they had $5 steak. Might have to try that next time I'm in town.

  • David H.

Very good food. They serve EVERYTHING (pizza, Ameri-Mex, burgers,...). You'll find something you'd enjoy. I recall there are a few vegetarian selections as well. Start out with the Nacho Grande platter. It's enough for 6 and some.

Everything, and I mean everything I have tried here is great. I stay in Johnson city while away from home with work. I love to eat here because A) the food is great! B) they will spend time with you through your meal and keep you company if you dine alone. C) they seem to know when I do want privacy and I am then left alone. These guys are great. A waitress I never had before knew my name and even knew my regular order. Eat here. Have the jerk chicken or burrito. Or my favorite the double cheeseburger with goat cheese! I seriously love this place!

  • Amy L.

Ambiance is really cool - we went on a Sat night, so the place was packed and the service wasn't very good. Both my husband and I ordered a chicken dish and the chicken was pretty dry and overlooked. Other than that, it was a fun place. We will give it another couple of tries on less busier nights!

It's a fun place to go eat. Menu is huge and has a little bit of everything. Ive never gotten anything bad. Desserts are wonderful.

  • David B.

We are new in town and everybody we talked to raved about the chicken here. The black bean salsa as an appetizer was a hit, extremely flavorful and brought out quickly. Unfortunately, that was the highlight of the meal as the service became extremely slow, even though the restaurant was about half full. The chicken was a bit rubbery and tasted like the sauce was thrown in as an afterthought. Checking out was just as slow as the service. Needless to say we were a bit disappointed in the experience and probably won't go back.

I love this little place. I eat here everytime I come to Johnson City and I will continue too. The pizza is great and there deserts are to die for. I had the strawberry cheesecake which was amazing. I always bring people with me here and they love it as well.

I moved out of Johnson City a few years ago but I always visit Cootie Browns when we visit! The Jerk Chicken is amazing! The Key Lime Pie is the bomb and you can't forget the homemade chips! Love the unique décor! Can't wait to visit again!

Really good. Our toddler loved the decorations. My husband got the Reuben sandwich and it was one of the best ones we've ever tasted. I got the key lime grilled shrimp and it was good but a little skimpy on portions. That's the only reason we didn't give it 5 stars. Will definitely go back and try more sandwiches or pizza.

My family and I visited Cootie Brown's on move in day for school. We arrived around 4 p.m. which seemed to be an excellent time as we were seated right away and had time to get lot's of information and ideas from the waitress. (My family is very peculiar) ENTREE' Our orders were: Jerk chicken dinner, tamale pie, the nachos (2), a kids cheese pizza, and chipotle chicken sandwich. Jerk chicken was excellent and was served with an amazing dipping sauce. The chipotle chicken sandwich was good as well and was served on a very nice, what seemed to be homemade sandwich bun. It wasn't extremely spicy nor drenched with cheese. Nachos were a hit with everyone and were easy to take down by my girlfriend and grandmother, even with the enormous amount which was served. The tamale pie was enormous, and must have been great as our family friend took out the entire thing without a word from him, he didn't even share like the rest of us. The cheese pizza wasn't a hit with my little brother (6), but the rest of the family thought it was awesome. I trust their word over his. DESSERT The turtle turtle cake was taken out with ease as was the orange creamsickle cake, which tasted exactly like a creamsickle. OVERALL with the great service and food, I give Cootie Brown's a 4.5 out of 5. And definitely will go back again.

Lunch July 9 Lots of hype for this place and expectations may have been too high. Loved the decor and the cool vibe. And I am a big big fan of thin crust pizza and thought the 1/2 pizza concept was brilliant! Famous Spiral Chips - homemade and you get your monies worth, but they came out cold? Were they supposed to be cold? plus, they had no salt or garlic or any flavor what so ever. Not to mention no sort of dipping sauce to go with it (like Whales Juice sauce at the Whales Rib in Deerfield Beach, FL) Side Caesar Salad - Liked the shaved cheese, liked the dressing, but the lettuce seemed a bit old. Cheeseburger - very large and looked delicious, but problem was the bun just didn't hold up to the meat - it basically feel apart after the 1st bite and couldn't maintain its form. Pizza - I love love love thin crust pizza (I call it Dayton style - sorry Connecticut). The sausage was very very good as was the pizza sauce. My biggest issue was the crust was more chewy than crispy and to me that just wasn't what this pizza should of been. Desserts - Turtle Chocolate cake was a bit dry and not so moist. I know people have raved about this place and I will certainly go back as maybe my expectations were too high, maybe I am too critical, or maybe i came after the lunch rush and the staff was "re-grouping". My next trip through I will know if my one visit was a fluke or if this place is simply over hyped.

Very eclectic interior. Food was great. I had the wings- which they have listed as 4 but are actually the whole wing (drum and flat) so there's actually 8. Also had the black and blue wedge and it was huge. The Maytag blue cheese dressing is excellent. My coworker had the carrot cake for dessert and loved it. All of their desserts are homemade. Although the beer selection is excellent, there's no bar area. A couple of TVs inside but not a great place to watch a game.

Good food. The other reviews are accurate. It's priced right; food is tasty and the service is good. A great experience. The jerk chicken pizza was tasty and and the bleu cheese-topped homemade chips for appetizers were excellent.

I love the quirky atmosphere! I had the tuna steak and it was so good and only 13$!!! I would definetley eat here again. The only downside was the menus were a little torn up and my dessert was pricey and too rich.

I drove past the national chain restaurants in JC to Cooties while in town for business. This place is really unique, upon arrival I was informed there would be a 20 minute wait. Since I was by myself, I inquired if there was a bar I could sit at, I was told that wasn't an option but I could sit in the outside area immediately. Since it wasn't terribly hot out, I went for it. The only negative was a few pesky yellow jackets and flies but the good news was I had Flora as my server who was delightful and attentive. I ordered the Chicken Italiano dinner with two breasts with mashed potatoes and upgraded to the grilled vegetable medley. The servings were generous and the prices were reasonable. The food wasn't a knock your socks off experience but was good enough to make me want to return. If you like lager beers (vs ales), try the Loose Caboose made locally just south of JC. Also, Flora talked me into taking a slice of Key Lime pie to go and I'm glad she did. It was awesome! As many other reviewers suggested, this is a must. I saw a lot of people ordering pizza so I will have to try that the next time I'm in town.

What a cool place! Unique atmosphere, converted building, outstanding Beer Menu, fantastic food! The waitstaff are fast and friendly, the bathrooms are painted with chalkboard paint and chalk is provided. Graffiti galore! Eat, have fun, buy a T-Shirt. There aren't many restaurants like this one! Next time I'm in Johnson City, I'll be back!

Great beer selection with local TN brews, friendly staff, awesome decor. The arugula prosciutto pizza with balsamic glaze is a must-get! Soooo good. The Beale Street pizza, one of their new BBQ pizzas is also really good. The jerk chicken pizza was underwhelming though and kind of bland, no real jerk flavor and the ingredients were not scattered very unevenly. Their famous chips didn't look special at first but are surprisingly addictive with some salt and ketchup. I thought their famous key lime pie was just okay though. The crust and flavor were good but the texture was too gelatinous for me. If anything I thought their key lime cookies were AMAZING. At $1.25 each, it was kinda pricey but I would still get it next time I'm in Tennessee.

The jerk chicken is killer! Must try the jerk on anything - I've had it on salad, on a sandwich and even on their pizza. SO tasty. The desserts aren't bad either! Key lime isn't authentic but the desserts are all generous portions and delicious. The ambience is really fun. Definitely a great place to check out on a cool summer evening on their patio.

Stopped by this wild looking restaurant while passing through town and couldn't stop eating my 1/2 Caribbean pizza! Some unusual topping combos on this white pizza like mushrooms and artichokes with mandarin oranges and mangos, plus of course spinach and chicken. But oh that heavenly sweet and spicy jerk sauce was what made the dish unique and incredible! They've got several menu items with jerk chicken or jerk sauce and if I'm ever back in this area, I'm going to have all my meals there and cover them in the sauce! Just an incredible finish to a long day in the car.

Are there even words to describe how phenomenal this local spot is?! Let's start with it was our first trip there and the parking lot was nice & full. The environment is fun, clean & the staff wearing tie-dye T's are full of smiles! The menu is extensive & gets the tastebuds watering from the start. We ordered the Carribean black bean dip to start - it was gone in seconds flat. DELISH! Our family of 4 each got something different: Reuben with homemade fries, burger, steak& 1/2 pizza - the Carribean jerk chicken! All were super fresh tasting & crazy good! The carribean jerk chicken pizza is their signature and a staff fave! Thank goodness we had some leftover to take home. Dessert: we got 4! Out of them they were all good but the peach pie was the best! Their pies are nearly like cheesecake & worthy of eating very very slowly . Don't miss this spot. I totally plan in visiting again just to eat here again.

Great food. Had A chicken sandwich order of wings and the beef appetizer it was all amazing and I also had the lime pie as dessert it was great. People were super nice and the price was great. If your in Bristol you have to eat here.

Excellent service. Had six different people order sox different items, and everyone was very happy with their meals. I had the jerk chicken dinner, which was very good. I would have added a bit more in the herb department, but overall I was very satisfied. Key lime pie was good, but I don't think it deserves the hype that it receives. I would go to this place once a week if I lived in the area.

Start w the black bean dip appetizer and end with the key lime pie. Every choice between those two will be delicious!

Food's always good here, I am particularly fond of the jerk chicken sandwich and the weirdly good way that they do home fries. The desserts are another thing that really makes this restaurant stand out. I've never been disappointed by cakes or pies. Lastly, the outdoor seating here is great.

A friend recommended this place to me as I was in Johnson City for work. Not being impressed by the choices on Roan street, I decided to try this "bar food" place out. Boy am I glad I did. Food selection - their menu is in the form of a newspaper. Huge selection of pizzas (their specialty). I ordered their Caribbean pizza and ordered their Wings for appetizer. PIZZA: Caribbean and 2 other specialty pizzas were recommend to me with the note that those "flavors" are not offered any where else. I ordered the half pizza and it came out to be more than enough. The toppings are listed on the menu and blended VERY well. The thin crispy crust - baked - was the perfect texture to the sweet saucy pizza flavor. I would HIGHLY recommend this pizza. WINGS: On the menu, it states that it's 4 order of wings. It's actually 8 as its 4 wingette, drummete, and the tip all attached. The wings were definitely not your usual wings. I got the buffalo sauce. It was good but nothing great. DRINKS: Beer only. No wine. but fear not. their beer selection is amazing and soooo cheap! They have one of my favorite beers, Leinenkugel, for just 3 bucks. All the beers are at least $1-3 bucks cheaper here. They also have a bucket option for those that enjoy larger quantities. I would definitely come back for some high quality pizza and cheap delicious beer selections. Oh and to top it off, they have rotating dessert showcases to tempt you. Just a warning for all you sweet tooth folks.

Simple with a twist. Everything is great - salads, pizza, burgers, jerk chicken, tamales, dessert... They also have a good beer selection. No draft and no cocktails.

Place is great, food is great, servers are great and it's all just great! Been here twice and both times I got the ribeye steak and both times enjoyed it. It was cooked just how I like it along with being a big piece of meat to chow down on. My sides were yet again mashed potatoes and rice. Then, I topped it off with sweet tea as always. Gotta love a more local place rather than a chain restaurant. Take the time to visit this place and enjoy it.

We had dinner here; northern California pizza, bbq chicken dinner and eggplant parmigian sandwich. The pizza was delicious. The chicken was over cooked but they remade it for me and it was good. Service was friendly and fast. I am just visiting my old neighborhood after a few years. It is always nice to be back in JC. For the size of the city there are a lot of good places to eat.

I went to this restaurant a couple years ago when I went to go visit a friend. The variety of beer they had was outstanding. While, I don't remember exactly what I ordered, I remember being quite surprised as to how good it was. I ordered the pumpkin pie on a suggestion of a complete stranger and it was LEGIT. It was very very good. If I'm ever in the area again, I'm going to definitely be going back!

Cootie's Key Lime Pie is a local favorite. And they have, hands-down, the best Ranch dressing in town. It's like double-strength and it's awesome on their homemade spiral potato chip twister things. I'm not a fan of their flatbread pizzas, but some of my friends really dig 'em. This is one of our go-to places to take folks visiting from out of town. It's a laid back atmosphere and the patio is covered and screened/windowed in. You can eat on the patio pretty much year round. So, it's a little garish, brightly colored and painted junk strewn around, sort of a color-blind hippie musician meets Montego Bay kind of spot. It seems like it's out of place in JC and would be a perfect little beach bar and eating spot. But it's here right smack in town. The muffaletta sandwich is enormous. Unless you're sharing or really hungry or want leftovers, consider 1/2. I like the Cobb Salad with a double dose (Double Dose Focker!) jerked chicken.

Have to be honest...when some friends recommended we eat here I was kinda scared. The name alone wasn't all that appetizing and when we pulled in the parking lot I had no idea what was getting ready to happen. Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised. The food was really good. We had the nachos appetizer, which was huge. I had the goat cheese burger, which was delicious and my wife had the half pizza, which is a legitimate half pizza. It was really good as well. Their desserts are huge and quite delicious. If you're unsure about trying this place out, give it a shot. Don't let the decor or the name scare you away like it almost did me.

I love recommending Cootie Brown's to people....1. because it's awesome! and 2. the "Cootie Who?!" response. That's right, I said Cootie Brown's. As a huge proponent of the "locally owned and operated," this place is super funky and lively. From the neon light outside, to the wall murals and tie-dye-t-shirted wait staff, Cootie Brown's is a great time. The pizza is great, as are the salads and sandwiches. The place is a little crowded on the inside, but there's a patio out front that's fun in the summertime. I always become hypnotized by the revolving pie case, but then I snap out of it and just order a key lime cookie (a girl knows what she likes). And hello, beer selection! You just can't go wrong. I had several friends in town for the Blue Plum festival and naturally wanted to avoid the absurd number of chain restaurants lining Roan Street. They raved and I beamed; yes, Johnson City is cool.

my dad and I ate here after a very long day of moving me from Michigan. it was perfect. they have FOUR (maybe even five) kinds of veggie burgers, a great beer selection, and outdoor seating that is second to none. the service and food were both great. that strawberry pie? you bet your ass I instagrammed that, and everyone was jealous. new favorite.

Cootie Brown's has nailed the Caribbean motif. Very funky and fun design. However, it can also feel dirty to those not accustomed to the caribbean open restaurant style. Concrete floors and everything is painted. My mother in law is in love with this place. I've ordered the Caribbean Pizza and it's very good, although the BBQ sauce they use on it can be a bit to tangy at times. Price are fair and the food is good.

I passed this place on a previous trip, and thought it looked worth investigating. On the last night of a return visit to Johnson City I found it was one of the highest rated eateries in town, that sealed the deal. What can I say the decode is eclectic, the menu takes up more than six pages and the food is incredible. The place was warm and inviting with fun murals lining the walls, and the staff friendly and attentive. Two strangers at adjoining tables from different states raved about their pizzas , so I went with the waitress recommendation the Caribbean pizza! I am from NY, have sampled Italian pies across the US, but this one was different; artichokes, baby spinach, Romano and mozzarella cheese, jerk chicken, portabella mushrooms, mangoes, pineapple, and mandarin oranges, sitting atop a thin crispy crust! It was one of the most flavorful pizzas I have ordered, EVAH! The meal was paired with a chilled Abita Christmas Ale, the perfect compliment. I ordered another seasonal micro brew, Shiner Holiday Cheer from Texas. With a sweet peach flavor, and hints of pecans and wheat the copper-colored beer just continued the flavor festival. I finished the meal with their unusual Key Lime Pies. It was sweet, it was savory, and though I tried there was no way to make it all disappear. This was one of those meals during a business trip when I wish there was someone else to enjoy a great restaurant! Now need to figure out how to get back to try more of their menu...definitely worth a try!

My husband and I are visiting relatives in the area, my step-son said this place was great. I was leery about ordering pizza because I'm spoiled by Sciortinos in NJ. He said the pizza was what they were known for, so I ordered a basil base with fresh garlic and mozzarella, red sauce on the side. It was excellent, there were whole cloves of roasted garlic all over it, as good as it was, I couldn't finish and took the remainder home. We returned later in the week, my husband even ordered pizza,

This is the best pizza place in town, to include Mellow Mushroom (chain restaurant) where I used to go to all the time, until I found this place. I've been here for several months and agree with another reviewer about it being difficult to get anything "good" around here. This place is the exception AND it's not a chain! You can get a variety of crusts and pizzas. They are thin crust and crunchy. I always get the Colorado--it's outstanding. There's a huge selection of bottled and canned beers, I think around 100. The place is clean, you can eat outdoors, and the waitstaff is courteous. Two things I would change is to have a bar for single patrons to sit (without taking up a table) and to have draft beer. Other than that, this place is great.

My favorite gourmet fire grilled pizza in the Tri-cities. I am from NJ and find it difficult to get any "good" food around here. I love the Jerk Chicken and Southern California pizzas. Also the Smothered Chicken is awesome (fattening but great). Never a bad experience there. Service is pretty decent too since it is mostly college kids serving. Great beer selections! A MUST VISIT in the Tri! I bring all of my out of town guests there.

My dad didn't like this place much but I certainly did. I loved the Mexicali burger lined with cheese and jalepenos. We were a little disappointed with the fries but I also tried some of the hawaiian pizza and it was delicious.

this place is great! it has a really old school feel to it, like it should really be located on a boardwalk by a beach or something. the menu has something for everyone. my friend and i shared the nachos and one of the pizzas. we got the prosciutto pizza which was amazing. service was great. ambiance of the place was very relaxed. my one gripe is that the tables against the wall that had the seats glued to the floor were a tad uncomfortable because the seats were so close to the table...maybe it was just that one table. there was just barely enough space to squeeze in. =P

I have mixed feelings about this place. From the outside, it looks awful, and the name is about as bad a name for a restaurant as I think anyone could possibly come up with, but neither of these things are points I tend to judge on. The inside of the restaurant was clean, and there was a screened in porch which we figured would be too cold (it was about 40 degrees out), but with the flaps down and heat on it was just fine. Service was good. Our waitress couldn't have been more than 20- seemed like most of them fell into this category- but she was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. My problem was honestly the food. We had the black bean dip as an appetizer, which was good but came with a ton of chips and very little dip. My husband ordered a whole pizza- a carribean chicken concoction but I don't remember the name- and he liked it. I tasted it and thought it was just ok. I ordered the seafood platter thing which came with salmon, shrimp and tuna. I should've known better than to order seafood at this sort of place, but hey, it was on the menu and I really wanted some. It was not good. The shrimp came still skewered and was extremely difficult to remove, and after all the work and nearly dumping my plate into the floor, they were very rubbery. The salmon was ok (overcooked) but we do it much better at home. The tuna steak was inedible. There's only one way to cook tuna, if you ask me- seared on the outside, raw in the middle. This came completely OVERcooked all the way through. Disgusting. I don't think we'll go back.

Sticking with the pizza at this resturant (or any) is bad advice. They have the best Rubens that I have ever had. Their "fries" are actually fresh made chips and are also delicious. The Johnson City location doesn't have a full bar, but they have a huge beer selection. They also have many fresh made pies. This resturant is a cut above the rest.

Eaten there for years and NEVER had anything close to unacceptable. Very ecletic atmosphere and menu. Service has always been great and menu has something for everybody. Beer is cold and "again" the food is great. Great pizza but you have to try the homeade tamales and mole sauce. Outstanding!!!

Went here for date night and it was amazing. Just a heads up when you order a meal or any food really, it's A LOT of food! Which is great but we could have split something haha. I had a ribeye sandwich and my boyfriend had a beer brat. Oh my amazing!!!!

A good American restaurant with a huge menu and pretty good food. There's really something for everyone! The outdoor seating is nice when it's warm out and the staff is always super friendly. Definitely try the spiral chips..you won't regret it!

Went here for lunch on 9/15. The atmosphere is casual. They have a patio that fit the lunch time weather perfectly, but it faces a busy highway so it was noisy and the screens were rolled up so we had to swat away bugs constantly. The menu is enormous and the food names are obnoxious, but if you can get past the gimmicky names and decor, the food was pretty good. It's impossible to have a menu as large and unwieldy as theirs and still make it all in house so I accept that some items were from a bottle or jar purchased at a restaurant supply. We ordered a Cootie Cheesburger, BBQ Chicken Sandwich, a house salad, and a Lagunitas IPA. We also received an order of spiral chips that I told the server during ordering I didn't want. We were charged for them, of course. Oh well. The food tasted pretty good and seemed fresh except for the spiral chips which were bordering on burned, but I guess I can't complain about something I didn't ever order. The beef in the cheeseburger was good quality. The BBQ chicken sandwich was OK, nothing special. The house salad had lettuces other than iceberg which is a nice surprise in TN. I wish they would cut the red onion into bite-sized pieces instead of the 6" long strips layered over the top. The salad dressings were likely from a bottle, but were still good quality. The service was polite and timely while not exact. No complaints there. I think the best thing is the beer selection. They have a comprehensive selection of national and local brews. Overall it was OK. Not great, but not bad. We will probably return for the beer and the burgers.

Cootie Browns has something for pretty much every appetite, from pizza to tamales, burgers to salads. The spiral chips are probably my favorite thing on their menu aside from the Key Lime Pie which is by far the best in the Tri Cities. It is a very unique restaurant with an outdoor seating arrangement that is a little crowded but also air conditioned in the summer. My only gripe is it's a bit pricey for what it is. Don't let looks fool you - it looks a little run down, and seeing "real food" in quotes on their sign is not really comforting. Rest assured, this is a great place to eat.

This is a popular restaurant in Johnson City, TN. Throughout my life, Cootie Brown's has been a recurring destination for small or large parties. I have been a long-time fan of their pizza and key lime pie. You HAVE to eat the key lime pie, or any of their pies really. The atmosphere here is unlike any other, which is apparent upon entering the restaurant. Be sure to eat "outside" if the weather permits. The only reason this has not received a 5 star rating, is simply because the wait time for a table and food is a little longer than reasonable. Great food, great service.

We were visiting in Johnson City and saw this on Yelp. When we drove up, we knew we picked a good spot. The place was packed like no other restaurant on the way. It was hard to find a parking space-- always a good sign. We ordered a half pizza and a couple of appetizers. It was plenty for two of us. The pizza was thin crust and tasty. The atmosphere was casual and fun. I'd come back and definitely recommend it to a friend.

While visiting my sister-in-law in Johnson City, she suggested that we check out Cootie Brown's for lunch. I was a little skeptical as the name alone sounded unappetizing. However, the six of us drove over for lunch, and the parking lot was absolutely packed. Despite the restaurant's obvious popularity, I continued to feel skeptical as we walked up to the entrance, past the random junkyard statues to the very random, looks-like-it-could-fall-down-at-any-minute building. Though service was a bit slow, I was blown away when I finally tried my food. I ordered the Grilled Shrimp Dinner made with the Key Lime flavoring and paired with the Roasted Sweet Potatoes. The dish was incredible! The shrimp was well cooked and tasted amazing with the savory lime flavors. The sweet potatoes were the perfect texture and flavor, and I wished that they offered an all-you-can-eat option for the side. Not only did I love what I ordered, but so did everyone else at the table. I can't wait to come back!

Just visited in Bristol, TN. My advice "Don't waste your money on bad food." We arrived at 5 ahead of the crowd. The food service was slow. Our server was nice and prompt with the beers but the kitchen was slow. We tried the tamales, as an appetizer. Go to a Mexican grocery store or restaurant and you can get really good ones. Our entree was the Greek chicken breast. The breast was over cooked with cold feta and tomatoes as the topping. The vegetable side of grilled brussel sprouts was the best part of the meal. The other side of specialty vegetables did not match the menu description. The building was very nice but if they continue to serve this quality of food expect it to be empty soon.

Upon a recommendation from a friend who used to live here and the locals, we made our dinner stop at cootie Browns. I had no idea what to expect from the name, and I guess I'm not surprised as to what we pulled up to. The service was quick, but considering we were 1 of 5 tables it was to be expected. They have a very broad and intriguing beer menu, but be careful. I tried to order 5 beers and they were out of each one so I had to find one they had. I wasn't disappointed. We got the melted Brie covered spiral chips. It was a unique, but addictive flavor. I snacked on those for the 30 minutes it took me to get through the menu. Oh, the menu. Yeah it's styled like a newspaper, which is only fitting. The thing had 26 sandwiches, 12 million pizza combinations, and who knows how many other things. I finally just gave my server two choices and told him to bring one. I got the bbq bacon cheddar chicken. The flavors were on point, the chicken was grilled well, and the bun was soft with a crispy surface touching the internals. Overall we had a great experience. My only reason for a 4 and not 5 star was the difficulty of finding an in stock beer and the hour it took me to read through the menu. Aside from that, I would recommend Cootie Browns if you wind up in Johnson City, TN for some strange reason.

Excellent food and service. I had the 1/2 pizza (white crust, pepperoni, basil, red onion, mushrooms, and cheese. The crust is to die for! Would definitely come back (when I'm in the area again- if I lived here this would be a weekly visit!)

Awesome place! Almost everything is made from scratch and made with quality ingredients. My favorite is their pizza, but we've had several other things as well and they've all been delicious. The pizza is thin crust and wood-fired--the best combination! Very heavy on the cheese, so if you don't care for it that way you'll want to ask for a tad less. The key lime cookies are simple and delicious. You won't be disappointed here!

Fast food quality at casual dining prices... The place seemed clean. The service and the beer was good (hard to screw up bottled beer), but the food was not what I expected. Go for the atmosphere. Go for the bottled beer. But eat first.

I can't think of one reason to not upgrade CB's to five stars. The sundried tomato burger is worthy of 6 stars on its own merit. And after a few visits I can say that I've never encountered a server that wasn't 100% friendly and helpful. This place is always packed with everything from business folks having lunch to families. I can't wait to go back. I hope there is a sundried tomato burger equivalent in Nashville.

Enjoyable experience and good food, if time permitted we would come back. Our server, Taylor, was friendly and prompt. We ordered the jerked chicken sandwich and the Rueben both with the fried chips. Taylor came by shortly after taking our order and informed us that the deep fryer for the chips just went down so she wasn't sure if we would get them or not but they would make a suitable replacement if necessary; fair enough. She then came by later and said it was working and we would get the chips as ordered. They were worth the little extra wait! However we did not appreciate that our sandwiches were at a temperature that indicated they had been waiting for the chips to come out. This was the only disappointment in our visit. The Rueben was average and the jerk chicken sandwich was better than average. The mango salsa had good flavor but I would have liked it to be diced smaller. It was more like a fruit cup than a salsa. I ordered the raspberry fusion for dessert and it was delicious. Good to share due to its size and sweetness.
